Above is the mythical tale behind the Black Chicken Remedies brand name and I just love it! For those looking for a skin or body beauty boost, I strongly recommend consulting Black Chicken for yourself with merely a click of the mouse and a browse of this small – but rather perfectly formed – Aussie collection.

Each of the products has a sensory experience at its base, with ‘tropical and deep surf notes’ offering a reassuring scent that strikes a brilliantly beachy and ultimately unisex note.

I’ve been trying…

Balm of Ages

Described as an ‘all purpose remedy’ this balm has been created to hydrate the skin and seal in the moisture for long-lasting gain. It proved a winter must for me and will long be a favourite for keep cuticles and rough patches in check. But it’s not just for the hands, it works on all areas of dryness, eczema, burns, scrapes and rashes, can be used as a cleanser and even massaged into your scalp and hair. A beauty bag saviour!

£34.50 for 75g

Love Your Face Serum

This oil based serum is bliss to apply with that trademark scent making you want to linger for longer on the application. It can be used both day and night, even on delicate complexions. It’s another multipurpose treatment product, replenishing the skin to leave it plumper, dewier and generally more youthful. The freshness takes immediate effect, so it’s a great way to pep up the face before a night out.

£55 for 30ml

Love Your Body Oil

As you can tell, I’m pretty taken with Black Chicken Remedies, but this might just be my favourite product. There are an awful lot of body oils out there, but few that deliver this balance of nourishment and sheen, without stick or grease. I also love the aroma, which omits the need for an additional fragrance. One of Biteable Beauty’s 2012/13 award-winners and I can see why.

£45 for 100ml

I’ve got my eye on…

Love Your Body Polish: combining the Love Your Body Oil with Himalayan pink salt. Sounds wonderful!

Retailed internationally: blackchicken.com.au

Lalita Augustine reviews of a selection of our products;

Black Chicken Remedies Love Your Body Oil:

This multi-benefit body oil (for both men and women!) boasts ingredients such as; avocado oil for moisturising dry, mature and climate damaged skin, rosehip oil for tissue regeneration in treating burns, scars and stretch marks and hazelnut oil for stimulating the circulatory system and helping to tone and tighten the skin.
Other lovely ingredients include vitamin E oil, coconut oil, sandalwood, geranium bourbon, patchouli, lavender, carrot, ylang ylang and nutmeg essential oils.

The first thing that hits you when applying this oil is a calming blast of sandalwood and patchouli. The smell is very aromatic and heavenly.

I applied this straight after a bath and found it not to be as greasy as some other body oils. I suffer with very dry patches of skin and it seemed to even soften these when no other non medicinal lotion or potion has managed. I ve been very gym sore the past couple of days and the soothing properties of the oil coupled with the scent help to ease some of this, giving me a restful nights sleep, which has been a rarity lately.

I absolutely love this oil and give it ten out of ten.

Black Chicken Remedies Special Edition BALM Of Ages All Purpose Remedy:

Remember when your granny had a homemade remedy she swore would cure everything? This balm claims that also.

I was somewhat dubious about the claims to help conditions such as eczema and psoriasis (I suffer with both) as nothing apart from prescription steriod cream has seemed to shift them but I’m willing to give an alternative a try, especially when it’s natural.

The balm is packed with 19 natural ingredients that are designed to help the skin, hair and scalp in many different ways.

These include mandarin for stretch marks and acne scarring, calendula for eczema, psoriasis, wounds and bruises, jojoba oil for scalp treatment and frankincense for healing cuts, grazes, infected skin and scars.

So far I’ve used this as a lip balm and its left my usually dry lips super conditioned for hours after.

I also put it on a cat scratch on my hand that’s been quite itchy and it calmed the area right down.

I can’t comment on what it does for other conditions yet as I’m not suffering with an episode of my dry skin ailments but it will be interesting to see if it helps, but I’m impressed so far. Watch this space.

Need some help to reduce “Chicken neck” or “Turkey neck” as some people call it?

Have you looked in the mirror lately and all of a sudden your neck seems to be making a dash for the floor? Its time for super moisture. The skin on your neck is considered thinner than the skin on your face … not by much but it also hangs down and lacks the underlying muscle tissue found on the face. When it hangs down it tends to gather at the base of the neck and so creates visible wrinkles prematurely with skin that lacks firmness and moisture. You may never have noticed it until you are tired, run down and lacking hydration … all of these things contribute to that “Chicken neck” look and lets face it – its never fashionable so try this and see a visible improvement…..

When you are in the shower or bath, apply about 1/2 a teaspoon of Balm of Ages to your neck and massage it for as long as time permits – the smell will carry you away so it will be an enjoyable activity. As you massage it in the warm water and steam will help carry the 19 Organic ingredients deep into your skin and provide long lasting hydration. Don’t wash it off just towel dry and there you have it – nice soft, plumped up neck! try it!

“Everyday, we are exposed to environmental factors, chemicals and pollutants that take their toll on our bodies, so the more natural our products, the more our skin will love us” She says.

Our new Balm of Ages (Special Edition) all purpose remedy challenges a myth around the effectiveness of multi-use skincare products. Don’t you think the skincare industry has an obligation to the environment to consider introducing more multi-use products.

We believe that the industry can be more active in developing more multi use skincare products vs single use products and there is ample evidence to suggest these can be just as effective. The new “Balm of Ages” all purpose remedy contains oils known for centuries to cleanse and moisturize and be effective for providing a barrier for skin conditions such as Eczema and Psoriasis. Single use products do have their place so it’s a matter of discretion on the part of the consumer, it’s a question of one or many?

We are focused on developing products congruent with our philosophy of using Mother Nature as our pharmacy. We place emphasis on retaining and protecting nature as a valuable source of remedies like ancient healing traditions have done for millennia.
