Weird name – great product. How did the brand get the name ‘Black Chicken Remedies’?
Years ago, when I first started learning about essential oils and aromatherapy, I began creating my own essential oil and botanical extract blends on my dining room table in a little bowl with a black chicken painted on it. I had no idea at the time that what I was creating would benefit thousands of people and become an international remedial brand!

Do your products contain parabens, sulphates, petrochemicals, artificial fragrances, preservatives or colours?

No, absolutely not! All of our products are free from any toxic chemicals. Our products are created naturally to heal your skin and cause no harm. Read our list of toxic chemicals to avoid and why.

Do your products contain Palm Oil?
No we do not use any Palm Oil in our products.

Since there are no preservatives, how long do your products last?
Unopened, our products have a shelf life of 24 months. After opening, all products should be used within 6 – 12 months for maximum effect. Some products, such as Axilla Deodorant Paste™ and Balm of Ages, are temperature-sensitive and may soften or even liquefy in hot temperatures or become hard in very cold environments. This does not affect the power and efficacy of the product. Simply pop them in the fridge or a warm place for a few minutes to reverse this change.

Do Black Chicken Remedies test their products on animals?

No. Black Chicken Remedies never has and never will test products on animals nor do we buy ingredients from suppliers who do.

Are Black Chicken Remedies products suitable for vegans?

With the exception of our Balm of Ages (which contains organic beeswax) and Featherlite Silk Eye Mask (which is made from silk), all of our products are completely free of animal ingredients.

Are Black Chicken Remedies products gluten free?
Yes, all of our products are gluten free. 

Do Black Chicken Remedies products contain Certified Organic ingredients?
Our products contain no toxins and use 100% natural ingredients. Wherever possible we choose certified organic ingredients. These ingredients are marked with an * in the ingredient list for each product.

How is your Vitamin e derived?
Our vitamin e comes from certified organic sunflower seed oil. It is non-GMO too.

Do you use fragrance oils or essential oils?
Our products are made using only the very purest essential oils. We would NEVER use fragrance. Wherever possible we use certified organic essential oils.

Are your products suitable for sensitive skin?
Our products are perfect for sensitive skin. We do not use harsh detergents, chemical preservatives or artificial fragrances that can irritate the skin. If you haven’t used our products before or if you have concerns about particular skin conditions, we suggest you do a small patch test first. We also have a sensitive version of our deodorant paste called Axilla Deodorant Paste Barrier Booster which has been specially formulated for those with sensitive skin or people who react to sodium bicarbonate deodorants.

Are your products safe for children?
Yes, they are safe for children. Our products do not contain any synthetic chemicals, parabens, sulfates or harsh detergents, phthalates, artificial fragrances or colours. They are extremely gentle on the skin. In fact our Balm of Ages is perfect for relieving the symptoms of childhood eczema and rashes!

Can I use your products when I’m pregnant?
A woman’s skin becomes extra-sensitive to many substances during pregnancy but our products are safe for second and third trimester use. Love Your Body Oil contains a small amount of nutmeg oil, which may cause some sensitivity during pregnancy. How are your products packaged?
Our products contain high concentrations of natural active ingredients and we package them either in aluminium bottles, glass bottles or PET plastic to preserve their integrity and there is no leaching of plastic toxins that occurs with cheap plastics. PET plastic does NOT contain PVC, heavy metals or Bisphenol-A.

After using Axilla Deodorant Paste, I noticed a slight skin rash. Why is that?
As with many deodorants, if you apply Axilla directly after shaving, a mild rash can occur. Our suggestion is to shave in the evening and apply Axilla in the morning. Some people are extra sensitive to the salt-like nature of baking soda. Please patch test the product first if you have any concerns. We have a bicarb free sensitive version of our deodorant paste called Axilla Deodorant Paste Barrier Booster which has been specially formulated for those with sensitive skin or people who react to sodium bicarbonate deodorants.

What do I do when my Balm of Ages or Axilla Deodorant Paste melts – can I still use it?
As this is handmade, consistencies across batches may vary. Products may melt or harden due to weather conditions and appear grainy in texture - this is perfectly normal and won't affect performance. We don’t use any chemical hardeners, preservatives or liquefiers in these products and they can melt in extreme temperatures or go hard in cold climates. The good news is, all you do is remelt the product a bit by placing the tub in a sink of hot (not boiling) water just halfway up the side of the tub and then once it has softened or melted, give it a mix and place it into the fridge to reset quickly. The product returns to its original state.

Will using oils cause a skin break-out?
No. Our products are formulated to bring the skin back to equilibrium, balancing deficient or excessive oil production over time. Please read this article for more information:

Can I apply the Essential Oil Blends directly on my skin?
No, pure essential oils should not come into contact with skin when not diluted in a carrier oil. They are also not to be ingested. If the oil does come into contact with your skin, immediately wash the area well with water.


I cannot complete my order. What do I need to do?
Firstly check you have filled out all required fields on the checkout page. If you still are unable to place your order then contact us explaining the problem. Our Customer Service advisors will help you sort it out!

I forgot my password. What can I do?
If you have forgotten your password, you can request a password reset email by clicking the "Forgot your password?" button below login. You will be taken to a page where you enter your account email address. Once you receive your password reset email, follow the prompts in the email.

What payment types do you offer?
You can pay for purchases using a major credit card, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, PayPal and Afterpay.

My PayPal eCheck hasn't cleared yet, when will my order be despatched?
Paypal eCheck payments can take between 3-6 business days to clear, which means your order will remain pending until this payment comes through. As soon as payment clears we will process and despatch your order and you will receive an order fulfilment email with tracking details.

Can I ship to multiple addresses?
We are unable to ship to multiple shipping addresses per order. If you’d like to ship to multiple addresses, please place a separate order for each unique address.

How will you confirm my order?
When your order is received, we’ll send you an email to confirm it. If for any reason you do not receive this email, please check your spam and / or junk mail folders before contacting us.

How do I track the delivery of my order?
You will receive an email with your confirmation of delivery which will have your tracking code. Simply click on the tracking number to track your order. Alternatively if you have registered for an account on the Black Chicken Remedies website you can log into My Account anytime and check your order there. My Account

My promotional link isn’t working?
When using the link we sometimes provide for a promotion, all you need to do is click the link and you should briefly see a pop up message that confirms the promotion has been applied to your cart.
